Su Hanchen (English spelling)

Japanese: 蘇漢臣 - そかんしん（英語表記）Sū Hàn chén

A Chinese painter at the Painting Academy in the late Northern Song and early Southern Song dynasties. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Bianjing (Kaifeng). He became a Painting Academy official during the Xuanhe era (1119-25) at the end of the Northern Song dynasty, and was reinstated to the post during the Shaoxing era (1131-62) of the Southern Song dynasty, serving three emperors: Huizong, Gaozong, and Xiaozong. He was skilled in Taoist and human portraits, and was particularly adept at painting infants and beautiful women. Although there are no confirmed surviving pieces, many paintings of palace ladies and infants in the Court style are believed to be his work. [Toda Yoshisuke]

中国，北宋末･南宋初の画院画家。生没年不詳。汴京（べんけい）(開封)の人。北宋末の宣和年間(1119‐25)に画院待詔となり，南宋の紹興年間(1131‐62)に復職して，徽宗，高宗，孝宗の3代に仕えた。道釈･人物画が巧みで，ことに嬰児･美人画を得意とした。確たる遺品はないが，院体様式の多くの宮女図，嬰児図が彼の作という伝称を与えられている。【戸田禎佑】
