Soga no Himuka

A powerful clan leader in the late 7th century. Son of Soga no Kuramaro, and half-brother of Soga no Kurayamada Ishikawamaro. Also written as Soga Hinako. Also written as Misashi, Misa, Muji, and Musashi. In 644, 3rd year of the reign of Kogyoku, he stole the eldest daughter of his older brother Ishikawamaro, who was married to Prince Nakano Oe (later Emperor Tenchi), putting his brother in a difficult position, but his second daughter, Ochi no Musume, took his place and married the prince, and the situation was resolved. In 649, he again slandered Ishikawamaro, claiming that he was plotting to kill the crown prince, Prince Nakano Oe, and pursued Ishikawamaro with his troops, forcing him to commit suicide at Yamada-dera Temple (Sakurai City). When Ishikawamaro's innocence was eventually revealed, Nakano Oe regretted his actions, and Hinako was suddenly appointed Dazai-no-sochi (chief commander of the Tsukushi Dazai). It is said that people rumored that this was a secret lineage. It is said that Hannya-ji Temple in Chikushi (Chikushino City) was built by Hyuga.

7世紀後半の豪族。蘇我倉麻呂の子で,蘇我倉山田石川麻呂の異母弟。曾我日向子とも書く。また字は身刺といい,身狭,無耶志,武蔵とも書く。皇極3(644)年中大兄皇子(のちの天智天皇)と成婚した兄石川麻呂の長女を盗み,兄を窮地に陥れたが,次女遠智娘が身代わりとなって皇子に嫁し,事なきを得た。大化5(649)年に再び石川麻呂が皇太子中大兄皇子殺害を謀っていると讒言し,兵を率いて石川麻呂を追い,山田寺(桜井市)で自害に追い込んだ。やがて石川麻呂の身の潔白が明らかになると,中大兄は後悔し,日向はにわかに筑紫大宰帥に任じられた。世人はこれを隠流かと噂したと伝える。なお筑紫の般若寺(筑紫野市)は日向が建立したと伝える。
