Soga Brothers

(Brother) Sukenari (1172-1193). May 28th.
(Younger brother) Tokimune (1174-1193). May 29th.
A samurai from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. He was famous for his revenge. He was the son of Kawazu Sukeyasu of Izu Province. His father was killed in 1176, and his mother later remarried to Soga Sukenobu, so he took the surname Soga. The two men had been waiting for an opportunity to kill their father's enemy, Kudo Suketsune, and in May 1193, they attacked Suketsune at night at a camp at the foot of Mount Fuji while he was accompanying Minamoto no Yoritomo on a hunting trip, and killed him. They fought in the rain with the samurai guarding the camp, and Juro Sukenari was killed by Nita Tadatsune, and Goro Tokimune was captured and beheaded the next day. This incident was later dramatized as "The Tale of the Soga" and widely circulated.

平安時代末期～鎌倉時代初期の武士。仇討ちで有名。伊豆国の河津祐泰の子。父が安元2 (1176) 年に殺され，のち母が曾我祐信に再嫁したため曾我姓を称した。父の仇工藤祐経を討つ機会をうかがっていた2人は，建久4 (93) 年5月源頼朝の狩猟旅行に随行した祐経を富士山麓の野営地に夜襲して殺した。2人は野営地警備の武士たちと雨中で戦い，十郎祐成は仁田忠常に斬られ，五郎時致は捕えられて翌日斬首された。この事件はのち『曾我物語』として脚色され，世に広く流布した。
