Oedipus complex

Japanese: エディプス･コンプレクス（英語表記）Oedipus complex

A psychoanalytic term. It refers to all the mostly unconscious desires of love and hate that a person has toward both parents. Like the Greek legend of Rex Oedipus, the form in which one hates the parent of the same sex and loves the parent of the opposite sex is called a "positive Oedipus complex," and the opposite form in which one loves the parent of the same sex and hates the parent of the opposite sex is called a "negative Oedipus complex." In reality, this yin-yang Oedipus complex is mixed in various proportions. Therefore, it is a mistake to think that there is a purely positive or negative Oedipus complex in human life.

精神分析の用語。ひとが両親の双方に対して抱く主として無意識的な愛および憎悪の欲望のすべてをいう。ギリシア伝説のオイディプス王のように，同性の親を憎み，異性の親を愛する形を〈陽性エディプス･コンプレクス〉とよび，逆に，同性の親を愛し，異性の親を憎む形を〈陰性エディプス･コンプレクス〉とよぶ。現実の様態は，この陰陽のエディプス･コンプレクスがさまざまな割合で混合している。したがって，人間生活において純粋の陽性または陰性のエディプス･コンプレクスが存在すると考えるのは間違いである。
