A type of customs duty imposed from the mid-Kamakura period on ships entering port or harbors. An early example was in 1261 (Kōchō 1), when 10 mon was collected per ship going to Kyoto in Yodotsu as a repair fee for the inner and outer palace of Mount Kongō. In addition to Yodotsu, it was also collected in Hyogojima, Settsu, and Nagisa-in, Kinno, Kawachi. In all cases, a coin was collected per ship. A similar customs duty was the hobetsusen. At the end of the Nanboku-chō period, hobetsusen was collected in Kanto port areas such as Kanagawa and Shinagawa, where 300 mon was collected for each sail of a ship entering or leaving the area.
