Date of birth and death unknown A Buddhist monk from Dunhuang in the first half of the 6th century. Under the orders of Empress Dowager Hu during the reign of Emperor Xiaoming of the Northern Wei Dynasty, he left Luoyang around 518 and traveled to northwestern India, obtaining about 170 copies of Buddhist scriptures and returning to China around 522. His travelogue, Song Yun Jiajieji, is an important historical source on transportation in southern Asia at that time.
