Prostate cancer - prostatic carcinoma

Japanese: 前立腺癌 - ぜんりつせんがん（英語表記）prostatic carcinoma

This is an epithelial malignant tumor that occurs in the prostate, and is common in people over 70 years old. It is much less prevalent in Japanese people than in Westerners, but has been rapidly increasing in recent years. It is likely to metastasize to the bones, especially the pelvic bones and lumbar vertebrae. Initial symptoms are varied, including difficulty urinating, frequent urination, constipation, and lower back pain due to bone metastasis, but do not appear until the cancer has progressed significantly. In terms of treatment, administration of female hormones, known as anti-androgenic therapy, and testicular removal are extremely effective, which is a feature that sets it apart from cancers of other organs.

前立腺に発生する上皮性の悪性腫瘍で，70歳以上の高齢者に多い。欧米人に比して日本人には格段に少いが，近年急増している。骨，特に骨盤骨や腰椎に転移しやすい。初発症状は排尿困難，頻尿，便秘，骨転移のための腰痛など多彩であるが，癌が相当に進行するまで現れない。治療面では，抗男性ホルモン療法といわれる女性ホルモン投与や精巣摘除がきわめて有効で，これが他臓器の癌と違った特徴といえる。
