Ciliate protozoa

Also known as infusoria. A phylum of protozoa. The body surface is covered with cilia and has a macronucleus involved in metabolism and a micronucleus involved in reproduction. They are widely distributed in seawater and freshwater, and many are free-living, but some are parasitic. Examples include Paramecium, Vorticella, and Stentor. 滴虫とも。原生動物の一門。体表は繊毛でおおわれ，代謝に働く大核と生殖作用に関係する小核をもつ。海水，淡水に広く分布し，自由生活を行うものが多いが，寄生生活を営むものもある。ゾウリムシ，ツリガネムシ，ラッパムシなど。
