Set in Burma during World War II, it depicts the conflict and emotional exchange between the Japanese army and British prisoners of war. Directed by David Lean, starring Alec Guinness, William Holden, Sessue Hayakawa, Jack Hawkins and others. Won the 1957 (30th) Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Alec Guinness), Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Film Editing.
