Senshu University

Private school. It originated as a two-year nighttime vocational school with lectures in Japanese majoring in law and economics, established in 1880 (Meiji 13) by Soma Nagatane (1850-1924), Tajiri Inajiro (1850-1923), Megata Tanetaro (1853-1926), and Komai Shigetada (1853-1901), who had studied in the United States, in an attempt to transfer knowledge to young people in Japan. In 1903 (Meiji 36), it became Senshu University (specialized department) under the Specialized School Act, and in 1922 (Taisho 11), it became a university under the University Act. In 1949 (Showa 24), it transitioned to a new university system. As of 2014, the university has faculties of Economics (first and second semesters), Law (first and second semesters), Business Administration, Commerce (first and second semesters), Literature, Network Informatics, and Human Sciences, as well as graduate schools of Economics, Law, Literature, Business Administration, Commerce, and Legal Affairs, and also has Ishinomaki Senshu University in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, which has three faculties of Science and Engineering, Business Administration, and Human Studies, as well as graduate schools of Science and Engineering and Business Administration. The headquarters is located at 3-8-1 Kanda Jinbocho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

The headquarters is located at the Kanda Campus. It is an urban campus centered around Building 1, which has 15 floors above ground and 3 floors below ground. It is home to mostly law students and is one of the few in the country to have a courtroom classroom .

私立。1880年(明治13)アメリカに留学経験のある相馬永胤(そうまながたね)(1850―1924)、田尻稲次郎(たじりいなじろう)(1850―1923)、目賀田種太郎(めがたたねたろう)(1853―1926)、駒井重格(こまいしげただ)(1853―1901)により、日本の青年に知識を移植しようとしてつくられた、日本語による講義の法律・経済専攻の夜間二年制の専修学校を起源とする。1903年(明治36)専門学校令による専修大学(専門部)となり、1922年(大正11)大学令による大学となった。1949年(昭和24)新制大学に移行。2014年(平成26)時点で、経済学(一部・二部)、法学(一部・二部)、経営学、商学(一部・二部)、文学、ネットワーク情報学、人間科学の各学部と、経済学、法学、文学、経営学、商学、法務の各研究科からなる大学院、ならびに宮城県石巻(いしのまき)市に理工学、経営学、人間学の3学部と、理工学、経営学の各研究科からなる大学院をもつ石巻専修大学を併設する。本部は東京都千代田区神田神保町(かんだじんぼうちょう)3-8-1。
