The official masu was established by decree of Emperor Gosanjo in 1072. It was widely used in manors around Kyoto and other provinces until the middle of the Kamakura period, but its use declined during the Muromachi period. 延久4 (1072) 年に後三条天皇の宣旨によって制定された公定枡。鎌倉時代中期頃までは,京都をはじめ諸国の荘園でも広く使用されたが,室町時代に入ると衰えた。1升は京枡の約6合7勺 (約1l) にあたる。 (→枡 )
