The diary of Asahi Shigeaki, a samurai of the Nagoya domain. 37 volumes. The original is held by the Tokugawa Institute of Forestry and History. From 1684 to 1717, the diary describes all sorts of events that occurred in the daily life of the author, who was a mid-ranking samurai, through a mixture of his own experiences and hearsay. He was well-versed in the arts, and his records of business ventures and personal accounts of what he saw and heard not only in Nagoya but also in Kyoto, Osaka, Edo, and other places are considered valuable historical materials.
