Random walk

Japanese: ランダムウォーク（英語表記）random walk

It is also called a random walk or a drunken walk. A probabilistic model of movement that is uncertain as to whether to go left or right, like a drunk person staggering around, is the random walk Xn ( n = 0 _{, 1, 2, ...), which is defined as follows: Let ξn} ₍ n = 1, 2, ...) be independent random variables such that P ( _ξn = 1) = p , P ( _ξn = -1) = 1 - p , _and X0 = a ( a is an integer). Random walks are a special type of Markov sequence, but they have long been studied in connection with gambling problems.

乱歩または酔歩ともいう。酔っぱらいのふらふら歩きのように，左右どちらに進むか定まらない運動の確率論的モデルがランダムウォークX_n(n＝0,1,2，……)で，次のように定義される。ξ_n(n＝1,2，……)をP(ξ_n＝1)＝p,P(ξ_n＝－1)＝1－pとなる独立確率変数とし，X₀＝a　(aは整数)，である。ランダムウォークはマルコフ系列の特殊なものであるが，賭の問題とも関連して古くからよく研究されてきた。
