〘名〙漢方で疝は痛の意で、主として下腹痛をいう。疝病。疝気病。あたばら。せん。※大山寺本曾我物語（南北朝頃）一「居易がせんき思ひ出でられたり」※浄瑠璃・鑓の権三重帷子（1717）上「此方は腰をお引きなさるるが疝気でも起ったか」〔史記‐倉公伝〕[補注]下腹部一帯の痛みを広く指すため、諸症状に適用され、俗間で男性特有の陰嚢・睾丸の病とされた。患部が特定できないため「疝気の虫」のせいにされたりもした。
