Born: August 10, 1886 in Paris [Died] 1969 French scholar of Southeast Asian history. He was professor at the Ecole francois Far Eastern in Hanoi (now Paris) (1914-17), director of the Siamese National Library of Bajranana (18-27), director of the Royal Institute of Siam (27-28), and director of the Ecole francois Far Eastern (29-46). In his later years he was a member of the Institut de France. He spent 35 years in the region and made a great contribution to the study of Indochina history through his epigraphic research. His major works include Les États hindouisés d'Indochine et d'Indonésie (48) and Les Peuples de la péninsule Indochinoise: histoire-civilisation (62).
