Sekke Shogun

Japanese: 摂家将軍 - せっけしょうぐん
Sekke Shogun
In the Kamakura period, after the end of the Minamoto clan Shogun line, this Shogun was appointed from the regent family. He is also known as the Fujiwara Shogun. In 1226, Yoritsune, the son of the regent Fujiwara Michiie (Kujo Michiie), became the 4th Shogun. In 1244, Yoritsune abdicated to his son Yoritsugu (the 5th Shogun). Although he was only a formal Shogun, as Yoritsune gained hidden power, he was banished by the regent Hojo clan in 1246, and Yoritsugu was deposed in 1252. He later became Prince Shogun (Shogun of the Imperial Family).
