…Polish military officer and politician. Born in Tuszów Narodowy in Galicia, which was then part of Austria. His father was a school teacher. He worked as a civil engineer in Lvov. In 1908 he joined the political movement and established a secret military organization. During World War I he organized the Polish Legion and fought against the Russian army on the side of Austria. From around 1915 he came into conflict with J. Piłsudski over leadership. He distinguished himself in the Soviet-Polish War in 1920, and served as Chief of the General Staff in the same year, and as Prime Minister and Minister of War from 1922 to 1923. …
