Setagaya

[1] One of Tokyo's 23 wards. Located on the Musashino Plateau, its southern end borders Kanagawa Prefecture across the Tama River. In the Middle Ages, it was the territory of the local clan, the Kira clan. From the Taisho period, it was developed as a residential area. In 1932 , it was formed by the merger of two towns and two villages, including Setagaya Town in Ebara County, as Tokyo City expanded its boundaries. In 1939, it became a special ward. [2] The name of a place in the center of Setagaya Ward. During the Edo period, it developed as a key location on the Tsukui Highway, which branched off from the Oyama Highway at Sangenjaya. A residential area.

[一] 東京都二三区の一つ。武蔵野台地にあり、南端は多摩川を隔てて神奈川県に接する。中世は地方豪族吉良氏の所領。大正時代から住宅地として開けた。昭和七年（一九三二）東京市の市域拡張に伴い荏原(えばら)郡世田谷町など二町二村が合併して成立。同二二年特別区となる。[二] 世田谷区中央部の地名。江戸時代、大山街道から三軒茶屋で分かれる津久井往還の要地として発達。住宅地。
