Japanese: 戊戌変法 - ぼじゅつへんぽう

Also known as the Hundred-Day Restoration. In 1898 (the 24th year of the Guangxu era, the year of the Year of the Hundred Hundred Years) during the late Qing Dynasty, Emperor Guangxu appointed Kang Youwei and others who advocated reform and self-strengthening (the Movement for Reform and Self-Strengthening) to power, and implemented a new government that aimed to turn the Qing Dynasty into a constitutional monarchy, but the conservative faction led by Empress Dowager Cixi staged a coup d'état first, leading to the Emperor being imprisoned and Kang Youwei, Liang Qichao and others fleeing to Japan (the Year of the Hundred Hundred Hundred Hundred Coup). With Empress Dowager Cixi as regent, the conservative faction took control of the government, and the new government failed in less than 100 days.

百日維新とも。中国，清末の1898年（光緒24年，戊戌の年）に光緒帝は変法自強（変法自強運動）を説く康有為らを登用して，清朝を立憲君主国家にしようとする新政を施行したが，西太后を中心とする守旧派は先手をとってクーデタを起こし，帝は幽閉され，康有為，梁啓超らは日本へ亡命した（戊戌政変）。西太后を摂政として守旧派は政権を把握，新政は100日たらずで失敗した。
