Revolutionary Party

...In February 1972, the TANU Guidelines were adopted, emphasizing popular participation. On February 5, 1977, on the 10th anniversary of the Arusha Declaration, TANU and ASP merged to form the Revolutionary Party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), a combination of political parties from the mainland and Zanzibar. On April 25, a new constitution was enacted based on this. The 1977 constitution continued the one-party system, had a unicameral National Assembly, and had a system of electing representatives by a referendum on up to two candidates per constituency nominated by the CCM.
