Sekigahara [town] - Sekigahara

Japanese: 関ヶ原[町] - せきがはら

A town in Fuwa County in the southwest of Gifu Prefecture. It is close to the Ibuki Mountains, where the Nakasendo and Hokkoku and Ise roads branch off, and has been a strategic military and transportation point since ancient times. Fuwanoseki is located here, and it was the site of the Battle of Sekigahara. The main settlement is a former post town, and it is served by the Tokaido Main Line, National Route 21, and Meishin Expressway. There are spinning and stone factories. The town produces rice and timber. The Sekigahara battlefield is a historic site. A drive leads to Mt. Ibuki. 49.28 ^km2 . 8,096 people (2010).

岐阜県南西部，不破(ふわ)郡の町。伊吹山地が迫る地で，中山道から北国・伊勢両街道が分かれ，古来軍事，交通の要衝をなし，不破関(ふわのせき)が置かれ，関ヶ原の戦の戦場となった。主集落は旧宿場町で，東海道本線，国道21号線，名神高速道路が通じ，紡績・石材工場がある。米，木材を産する。関ヶ原古戦場は史跡。伊吹山へドライブウェーが通じる。49.28km²。8096人（2010）。
