Japanese: アジュネ - あじゅね

Aquitaine is a region in southwestern France, mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Garonne River (the central and western parts of the Aquitaine Basin). Its scope has changed considerably over time, but today the term Aquitaine generally refers to the region that includes Guyenne, with its capital Bordeaux, and the surrounding areas, namely Aunis (with its capital La Rochelle), Saintonge, Angoumois, Périgord, Agenais, Quercy, and Gascogne.

The name "Aquitaine" comes from the fact that the region was conquered by Rome in 56 BCE and was called Aquitania ("Land of the Waters").

…Under the Ancien Régime, the two constituted a single, vast governorate. Guyenne has no clear geographical boundaries, not only with Gascony, but also with the other neighboring cantons, and is also not uniform within itself, being divided into the following regions: Bordelais (roughly equivalent to today's Gironde), Périgord (Dordogne), Agenais (Lot-et-Garonne), Quercy (Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne), and Rouergue (Aveyron). Topographically, the region ranges from the sandy lands at the mouth of the Gironde to the alluvial plains separated by numerous hillocks in the lower and middle Garonne, the limestone plateaus that stretch from the Périgord to the Quercy, and in Rouergue, part of the ancient crystalline plateaus that make up the Massif Central. The Dordogne and Garonne rivers and their tributaries run parallel to each other, running roughly east to west. …
