Nagauta shamisen player. The head of the Kinesa school, which has had seven generations to date, with the fourth generation being the most famous.

First World

(?-1807) A disciple of Kineya Rokusaburo II. Known as the composer of "The Spider's Beat Dance."

Date of birth and death unknown. Active in the first half of the 19th century. A disciple of the founder Kazuyoshi. Left behind works such as "Asazumabune" and "Makasho".

(1821-81) A disciple of the second Kazuyoshi (the biological son of the first Kazuyoshi).

IV

(1884-1945), grandson of the third generation. His real name was Muto Ryoji. His previous name was Asakichi, and he took the name of the fourth generation in 1907 (Meiji 40). He was also an excellent composer, with 325 works written between 1902's "Shochikubai" and the year of his death. He was also active in new fields, such as inventing the sangen (three-stringed instrument) main instrument without lyrics, composing a relatively short new style of song called fuyoukyoku (Japanese quinceanera), and composing children's songs with shamisen accompaniment. He also experimented with improved shamisen such as the kangen (electric shamisen) and gogen (large shamisen). His famous Nagauta works include "Youchisoga" and "Futatsudomoe". He passed away on December 13, 1945.

(1929-93) The son of the 4th. His real name was Muto Kenji. He took on the name of the 5th in 1951 (Showa 26). After the death of the 5th, his eldest son, Kosakichi (real name Muto Takanori), took on the name of the 6th, and his second son, Saki (real name Muto Yoshihiko), took on the name of the 7th.

初世

(?―1807)2世杵屋六三郎の門弟。『蜘蛛の拍子舞(くものひょうしまい)』の作曲者として知られる。

生没年不詳。19世紀前半に活躍。初世の門弟である初世和吉の門人。『浅妻船(あさづまぶね)』『まかしょ』などを残す。

(1884―1945)3世の孫。本名武藤良二。前名は浅吉で、1907年(明治40)4世を襲名。優れた作曲家でもあり、作品は1902年の『松竹梅』から没年までに325曲を数え、また歌詞を伴わない三弦(さんげん)主奏楽の創始をはじめ、比較的短い新形式の歌曲である芙蓉(ふよう)曲の作曲、三味線伴奏による童謡の作曲など、新分野で意欲的な活動を行う。さらに咸絃(かんげん)(電気三味線)、豪絃(大三味線)などの改良三味線の試作も行っている。長唄作品では『夜討曽我(ようちそが)』『二つ巴(どもえ)』などが有名。昭和20年12月13日没。

(1929―93)4世の実子。本名武藤健二。1951年(昭和26)5世を襲名。5世没後は、長男の小佐吉(本名武藤貴則(たかのり))が6世を、次男の佐喜(本名武藤吉彦(よしひこ))が7世を襲名した。
