Specialized education is aimed at training medical professionals, and is education for professionals and the general public that regards medicine as a social necessity on the same level as food, clothing, and shelter. In the case of the former, in modern civilized countries, in addition to the traditional doctors and nurses, various professions have been differentiated, and in principle, all of these require national qualifications based on graduation from an officially recognized school, but historically they have been trained and educated through guilds or apprenticeship systems. In the case of the latter, exchange and mutual cooperation between medical professionals and the general public is of great importance.

医療に従事する者を養成することを目的とする専門教育，あるいは医学を衣食住と同列にある社会常識とみなし専門家，一般人に対して行なう教育。前者の場合，現代の文明諸国では伝統の古い医師，看護師のほか，各種の職能が分化し，いずれも原則的には公認された学校の卒業を前提とする国家資格を条件としているが，歴史的にはギルド，あるいは徒弟制度によって育成教育されてきた。後者の教育については，医学の専門家と一般人の間の交流および相互協力が重要な意義をもつ。
