Electronic Percussion

...In jazz and popular music, it often refers to percussion instruments other than drum sets, and is in fact almost synonymous with so-called Latin percussion instruments such as congas, maracas, guiros, and bongos. Electronic percussion has become increasingly popular since the 1980s. These can be broadly divided into synthesizer-type and computer-type instruments. The former (brand names include Syndrum and Simmons) process oscillator sounds to produce percussion-like tones, and are played by hitting them with a stick like ordinary drums.
