Musi River (English spelling)

Japanese: ムシ[川]（英語表記）Musi River

A large river in the southern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. It originates in the Barisan Mountains east of Bengkulu, and meanders through the vast marshes, combining with small and large tributaries, before passing through Palembang and emptying into the South China Sea in the northern part of the Bangka Strait. It is 520 km long, has a drainage area of 61,000 km2, and together with its large and small tributaries, it forms an important transportation route in the region. The water is 10 m deep near Palembang, 90 km from the mouth, even in the dry season, and 20 m deep in the rainy season. The area around Palembang is rich in oil and various agricultural products.
