Aomori Bay

A branch bay of Mutsu Bay, located in the central part of Aomori Prefecture, in the northernmost part of Honshu. A part of Mutsu Bay is joined by the Natsudomari Peninsula, forming an almost semicircular shape. The average depth of the water is about 40 metres. The southern part of the bay is the Aomori Plain, with its sandy coastline, and at the inner part of the bay is Aomori City and Aomori Port, which functions as both a commercial port and a fishing port. Ferry boats, as well as domestic and foreign merchant ships and fishing boats, navigate within the bay, coming in and out of Aomori Port. Although it is an important transportation route, there is nothing of note in terms of fisheries.

本州最北部、青森県の中央部にある陸奥湾(むつわん)の支湾。陸奥湾の一部が夏泊半島(なつどまりはんとう)によってくぎられた部分で、ほぼ半円形をなしている。水深は平均で約40メートル。湾の南部は青森平野で砂浜海岸が続き、湾奥に青森市街と、商港と漁港の機能をもつ青森港がある。湾内はフェリーボートをはじめ、青森港に出入りする内外の商船、漁船が航行する。交通路としては重要であるが、水産面にみるべきものはない。
