Iojima [town] - Iojima

Japanese: 伊王島[町] - いおうじま

This town is located in the southwestern sea of Nagasaki City, in Nishisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture, and is made up of the islands of Iojima and Okinoshima. It was once a producer of high-quality weakly coking coal belonging to the Takashima coalfield, but the mines are now closed. There are many Catholics and Magome Cathedral is located here. Regular ferries run from Nagasaki Port. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Nagasaki City along with the towns of Koyagi, Takashima, Nomozaki, Miwa, and Sotome in Nishisonogi County. ^{2.25 km2} . 964 people (2003).

長崎県西彼杵(にしそのぎ)郡，長崎市南西海上の伊王島と沖之島からなる旧町。かつては高島炭田に属する良質の弱粘結炭産地であったが，現在は閉山。カトリック信者が多く馬込天主堂がある。長崎港から定期船が通じる。2005年１月西彼杵郡香焼町，高島町，野母崎町，三和町，外海町と長崎市へ編入。2.25km²。964人（2003）。
