A town in Kayabe County in southwest Hokkaido. The town name comes from the Ainu word "shikerupe" (place with ambrosia trees). It is located on the southeastern foot of Mt. Komagatake, facing the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of Uchiura Bay. It suffered great damage in the 1929 eruption of Mt. Komagatake. Fishing is thriving, mainly with fishing boats, and the town also processes seafood. It is home to the Hokkaido Comprehensive Aquaculture Center and Shikabe Hot Springs. Area: 110.64 km2 .
