A star of salons, she left behind novels called "roman à clef" (key novels), which alluded to famous people in high society. Her works "Artamene ou le Grand Cyrus" (10 volumes, 1649-53) and "Clélie" (10 volumes, 54-61), published under her brother's name, were best-sellers of the time, and the "Map of Love" inserted in the latter is particularly famous.
