A city in the north of Osaka Prefecture, bordering Osaka City to the north. It was incorporated as a city in 1940. The Kanzaki River flows west along the southern border. The former Suita area at the southern end of the city has developed since ancient times as a base for water traffic along the Yodo River. In the Kamakura period, it was often mentioned in the diaries of aristocrats as a place for changing directions, and aristocrats built villas there due to its scenic beauty. Even in the early modern period, it was the center of villages within the city and had a strong rural character. Since the establishment of a beer company in 1899, chemical, metal, and paper factories have been established here, and it has developed into an industrial area. It is a transportation hub with the Tokaido Main Line, Hankyu Kyoto Line, Senri Line, Osaka Municipal Subway Midosuji Line, Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line, Osaka Monorail, Meishin Expressway, Chugoku Expressway, and Kinki Expressway passing through it.
