Thailand-Burma War

Japanese: タイ･ビルマ戦役 - タイビルマせんえき

A general term for the wars, large and small, that took place intermittently between Thailand and Burma (present-day Myanmar) over a period of about three centuries, from the mid-16th century to the early 19th century. Thai historian Damrong counted 44 wars. This period coincided with the growing power of the Burmese Taungoo and Konbaung dynasties, and they and the Ayutthaya dynasties of Thailand were in a confrontation to the east and west across the Tenasserim Mountains. In many cases, wars were started by Thailand intercepting Burmese expeditionary forces, but there were also cases where Thailand invaded Burma, such as King Naresuen's.

16世紀中葉から19世紀初頭までの約3世紀にわたり，タイ･ビルマ(現ミャンマー)両国の間で間欠的に行われた大小の戦争の総称。タイの史家ダムロンは44回を数えている。その時期はビルマのタウングー朝およびコンバウン朝の勢力伸張期にあたり，これとタイのアユタヤ諸王朝が，テナッセリム山脈をはさんで東西に対峙する形勢にあった。戦争はビルマの遠征軍をタイが迎撃する形で起こされる事例が多いが，ナレースエン王のようにタイからビルマに攻めこんだ場合もある。
