Cucuteni

Japanese: Cucuteni
Cucuteni

…The Neolithic and Copper Age cultures of Moldavia are called the Cucuteni culture, named after the painted pottery found at the Cucuteni site in Romania by German archaeologist Hubert Schmidt, and are also called the Eredian culture. The middle period of the Tripolye culture in Ukraine is the same as the Cucuteni culture, so the culture's extent extends from the Seret River along the eastern foot of Transylvania to the middle reaches of the Dnieper River.

Greek culture had an early influence on Romania. The curved patterns on painted pottery from the Neolithic period unearthed at Cucuteni in the northeast already show links to the cultures of Crete and the Aegean Sea, and Greek colonies such as Istros and Tomis (now Constanta), which were built on the Black Sea coast in the 7th and 6th centuries BC, flourished during the Roman and Byzantine periods and were centers of classical ancient culture. On the other hand, gold and silver armor from the 5th and 4th centuries BC excavated at Coțofenești-Prahova and Hadjighiol, thought to be the work of the Dacians or Getae (both in the Bucharest History Museum), show a primitive strength despite being influenced by Mediterranean culture.
