A nest is something that animals build to stay in one place and rest, give birth, and raise their offspring. Some use natural caves or the gaps between the branches of large trees, but many build extremely elaborate nests. They come in all sorts of forms and shapes, such as digging holes in the ground, spitting silk to hold together leaves, or combining twigs. In spiders and antlions (larvae of the antlion fly), nests also serve as traps. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
