Madrigal

Japanese: madrigale
Madrigal

...a type of polyphonic secular song that was popular in Italy and England in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its origins are from the Italian madrigale, and it was originally a form of poetry. Polyphonic songs based on such poetry had already been composed by Italian composers in the 14th century. A good example is Jacopo da Bologna's Non al suo amante, based on a poem by Petrarch. Its musical form is characterized by an AAB pattern with a repetition in the first half.
