The Society for Psychical Research (SPR) is an organization founded in the UK in 1882 for the purpose of empirical research into psychic phenomena (see Spiritualism), and continues to exist today. It was promoted by Henry Sidgwick (1838-1900), a professor of philosophy at Cambridge University, and many of its past presidents have been well-known figures, including W. James, Bergson, and Crookes. The author Conan Doyle is also a strong supporter. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
