Qinhuangdao - Qinhuangdao

Japanese:
Qinhuangdao - Qinhuangdao

It is a prefecture-level city in the eastern end of Hebei Province, China. It borders Liaoning Province to the east. It has jurisdiction over four city districts, including Shanhaiguan District, two counties, and one autonomous county (as of 2016). It has a population of 2,951,000 (2014). The city's name comes from the legend that the First Emperor of Qin was stationed here. The Yanshan Mountains are close to the sea, forming the natural boundary between North China and Northeast China. In the Ming Dynasty, Shanhaiguan was established here, making it a key point for northern defense and the eastern starting point of the Great Wall. In addition, since the coast does not freeze in winter, a trading port was opened in the Qing Dynasty, and coal from the neighboring city of Tangshan was exported. Today, a pipeline has been laid from the Daqing oil field in the northeast, making it an oil shipping port, and the machinery and building material industries are well developed. In 1984, the State Council (the Japanese Cabinet) designated it as one of 14 coastal cities that have opened up to the outside world. Six railways run through the city, including the Jingha Line and the Tianjin-Qin High-Speed Railway (Tianjin-Qinhuangdao). The Beidaihe coast in the southwest of the city was developed as a summer resort for foreigners even before the founding of the People's Republic of China, and is still famous as a resort destination today.
