Indian awlking

Indian awlking

This butterfly belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Hesperiidae. It is widely distributed throughout Japan, from Aomori Prefecture to the Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa, but the population is generally small. Outside of Japan, it is distributed in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka in the west, and Southeast Asia from India to the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. Its wingspan is about 40 to 45 millimeters, making it the largest of the Hesperiidae butterflies found in mainland Japan. Its wings are dark green to dark purple, and it has a beautiful orange spot on the underside of its hindwings, making it a very distinctive species, and there are no similar species in Japan that are easily confused with it. In Japan, there are three species in the same subfamily of the Aoba-seriinae as this species: the Yellow Skipper, the Okinawan Broad Skipper, and the Taiwan Blue Skipper. In mainland Japan, they usually appear twice a year, from May to June and July to August, and sometimes in the fall, a butterfly thought to be in its third generation can be seen. The larvae feed on plants from the family Aquifoliaceae, such as the Japanese elm, Japanese loquat, Japanese hoso, and Sakunoki.
