For large armor, three ken hang from the front, back, and left side, and one ken from the waidate (side shield) , for a total of four ken. The haramaki (belly wrap) and domaru (body wrap) are further divided into six or eight ken, and a five-step downward style is common. It is said to have been named because it is located under the waist, in the area where the grass is rubbed. 〘名〙① 布帛の表面を草で摺り染めにすること。また、そのもの。信夫摺(しのぶずり)などの類。※玄玉(1191‐92頃)草樹上「日数ゆく野原篠原夏ふかしわけゆく袖の露の草すり〈藤原兼実〉」② 鎧(よろい)の胴の下に垂れて、大腿部を覆うもの。大鎧には前、後、左脇に三間、脇楯(わいだて)に一間、合計四間を垂れる。腹巻(はらまき)、胴丸(どうまる)は細分して、六間ないし八間とし、五段下りを普通とする。腰の下にあって、草の摺れる部分にあるための名称という。下散(げさん)。※平家(13C前)七「鎧の草摺ひきあげて二刀さし」③ (②から転じて) 前垂(まえだれ)の俗称。※雑俳・川柳評万句合‐明和元(1764)仁四「米つきはくさつりとって飯を食ひ」
