New Science Lectures - Shinkagakukowa

Japanese: 新科学講話 - しんかがくこうわ
New Science Lectures - Shinkagakukowa
Also known as "Dialogues on the New Sciences." For more information, see "Discourses and Mathematical Proofs on Two New Sciences, on Mechanics and on the Motion of Places." Published in 1638 by Galileo, who was under house arrest after undergoing religious trials, in Leiden, Holland, a Protestant state beyond the reach of the Papacy. Through four days of dialogue between the new scientist Salviati, the philosopher Simplicio, who was well versed in the Aristotelian system, and the Venetian citizen Sagredo, the book explains in simple terms the facts of new science, such as the strength and weakness of materials, sound, pendulums, and levers (days 1-2), and free falling bodies and parabolic motion (days 3-4). It explains the scientific method in concrete terms, making it one of the greatest classics in the history of science.
