...A general term for arthropods belonging to the order Thelyphonida in the class Arachnida. They are mainly distributed in tropical regions, but in Japan, the Amami false scorpion Typopeltis stimpsonii (illustration) lives in Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands, and the Taiwan false scorpion T. crucifer lives in the Yaeyama Islands. At first glance, their appearance resembles that of a scorpion, but they are not closely related and do not harm humans.
