Japanese: 白石[町] - しろいし

A town in Kishima County in southern Saga Prefecture. It occupies lowlands downstream of the Rokkaku River and faces the Ariake Sea. The Nagasaki Main Line runs through the town. Hidetsu, the central settlement, was originally a river port, and became an inland agricultural center through land reclamation from the Edo period. Rice cultivation is thriving, and lotus root is a specialty. Seaweed and shellfish are cultivated on the coast, and mandarin oranges are grown and dairy cows are raised in the western foothills. In January 2005, Fukutomi Town and Ariake Town in Kishima County were incorporated, and the town hall became the former Ariake Town Hall. 99.56 ^km2 . Population 25,607 (2010).

佐賀県南部，杵島(きしま)郡の町。六角川下流の低地を占め，有明海に臨む。長崎本線が通じる。中心集落の秀津(ひでつ)はもと河港で，江戸時代からの干拓により内陸の農村中心地となった。米作が盛んで，れんこんを特産。海岸ではノリ，貝類の養殖，西部山麓ではミカン栽培，乳牛飼育も行われる。2005年１月杵島郡福富町，有明町を編入し，町役場を旧有明町役場とした。99.56km²。２万5607人（2010）。
