An Arab musician active from the end of the 8th century to the 9th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. His real name was Abū al‐Ḥasan 'Ali b.Nāfī'. He was a student of Ishaq al‐Mawsiri. He first gained the favor of Caliph Harun al‐Rashid in Baghdad during the Abbasid dynasty, but later traveled to Andalusia and served the Umayyad caliph Abd al‐Rahman II.
