Ziryāb (English spelling)

Japanese: ジルヤーブ（英語表記）Ziryāb

An Arab musician active from the end of the 8th century to the 9th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. His real name was Abū al‐Ḥasan 'Ali b.Nāfī'. He was a student of Ishaq al‐Mawsiri. He first gained the favor of Caliph Harun al‐Rashid in Baghdad during the Abbasid dynasty, but later traveled to Andalusia and served the Umayyad caliph Abd al‐Rahman II. He established a music school in Cordoba and became the founder of the Andalusian school of music.

8世紀末から9世紀にかけて活躍したアラブの音楽家。生没年不詳。本名アブー･アルハサン･アリー･ブン･ナーフィーAbū al‐Ḥasan ‘Alī b.Nāfī‘。イスハーク･アルマウシリーの弟子。はじめアッバース朝のバグダードでカリフのハールーン･アッラシードの寵を得たが，アンダルスに渡り，後ウマイヤ朝のカリフ，アブド･アッラフマーン2世に仕えた。コルドバに音楽学校を建て，アンダルス楽派の祖となった。
