Mount Shiramine - Shiraminesan

Japanese: 白峰山 - しらみねさん

A mountain in the eastern part of Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is 337m above sea level. It occupies the western part of the Goshikidai Mountains and is the source of pure Sanuki rock, which the German Weinschenk named Sanukite (1891). Pyroclastic rocks are sandwiched between granite rocks, and Sanuki andesite and Sanuki rocks are layered on top of the granite. Sanuki rocks are made of bronze pyroxene and feldspar, and have properties similar to glass or metal, making a metallic sound when struck. They became the raw material for chipped stone tools in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Near the summit is the Shiramine Mausoleum of Emperor Sutoku, and on the mountainside is Shiramine-ji Temple, the 81st temple of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. Mandarin orange orchards spread across the foothills. It belongs to the Setonaikai National Park.

香川県坂出市東部にある山。標高 337m。五色台山地の西部を占め，ドイツ人ワインシェンクがサヌカイトと命名 (1891) した純讃岐岩の原産地。花崗岩類上に火成砕屑岩をはさみ，讃岐岩質安山岩，讃岐岩が重なる。讃岐岩には古銅輝石質と長石質があり，ガラスまたは金属に似た性質をもち，打つと金属音を発する。中国・四国地方の打製石器の原石となった。山頂近くに崇徳上皇の白峰陵，山腹に四国八十八ヵ所第 81番札所の白峰寺があり，山麓一帯にミカン畑が展開する。瀬戸内海国立公園に属する。
