...The religion of ancient India, as it is known, was clearly polytheistic, with a great number of deities to which hymns were given. Most of the deities were natural phenomena, such as Agni, the fire god, or Bāyu, the wind god. Other deities include Tvaṣṭṛ, the craftsman, Dakṣa, the will, and Vāc, the goddess of language.
