Years of birth and death unknown. A poet of the mid-Heian period. A poet of the Kokinshu period known only for the official ranks he held: Takuminojo in 908 (Engi 8), Kura Daijo in 923 (Encho 1), and Jyu Goi no Ge in 930 (Kokinshu Mokuroku). He was the son of Fusanobu, and his grandson was the poet Motosuke, and his great-grandson was Sei Shonagon. He is said to have built Fudarakuji Temple (Shugaisho, Seiasho). He wrote the Shinyobushu, and 41 of his poems were included in imperial anthologies such as the Kokinshu. He is one of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets of the Middle Ages. Fujiwara no Kiyosuke, in his Fukurozoshi, expressed suspicion that Fukayabu was not included in the Thirty-six Selected Poems.

生没年未詳。平安中期の歌人。908年（延喜8）内匠允(たくみのじょう)、923年（延長1）内蔵(くら)大允、930年従(じゅ)五位下（『古今集(こきんしゅう)目録』）の官位のみ知られる『古今集』時代の歌人。房則の息で、孫に歌人元輔(もとすけ)、曽孫(そうそん)に清少納言(せいしょうなごん)がある。補陀落寺(ふだらくじ)を建立したと伝えられる（『拾芥抄(しゅうがいしょう)』、『井蛙抄(せいあしょう)』）。『深養父集』があり、『古今集』以下の勅撰(ちょくせん)集に41首入集(にっしゅう)。中古三十六歌仙の一人。藤原清輔(きよすけ)は『袋草紙(ふくろぞうし)』で、深養父が『三十六人撰』に入らなかったのを不審としている。
