Goyohitsu

Japanese:
Goyohitsu

A Neo-Confucian scholar in the early Ming Dynasty in China. His pen name was Zifu and his pen name was Kangzai. He was from Chongren County, Jiangxi Province. He studied Neo-Confucianism on his own in the stagnant intellectual world of the early Ming Dynasty as a result of the ideological oppression during the Jingnan Incident (1399-1402), a civil war over the succession to the throne. He is a typical Neo-Confucian scholar who tried to put Neo-Confucianism into practice faithfully. Although he did not offer any new theoretical ideas, he presented a living Neo-Confucian school and made a great contribution to revitalizing the intellectual world by gaining disciples such as Chen Baisha (Xianzhang), Hu Jingzhai (Juren), and Lou Yizhai (Liang, 1422-1491). His main work, the Daily Records, which are a record of his daily studies, was widely read in China and Japan.
