King of the Seleucid Empire of Syria (reigned 223-187 BC). Son of Seleucus II. He gained the name of the Great by invading Parthia, Bactria, and India to reunify the kingdom. He later confronted the Roman advance eastward, and was defeated at the Battle of Magnesia in 190 BC, losing his territory in Asia Minor.
