[Born] 1714 [Died] 1760. Founder of the Konbaung dynasty in Ayutthaya Burma (reigned 1752-60). This dynasty is also named after him. When the Mon people of southern Burma occupied Aba, the capital of the Taungoo dynasty, in 1752, he was the chief of the Shwebo region about 80 km north and organized a self-defense army to repel the Mon people. He was eventually welcomed by the king, and began to march south, taking Pegu in 1757 and completely subduing the Mon people. He besieged Ayutthaya in Thailand, and died of injuries sustained in a cannon explosion just before he began his attack.
