Baboon (English spelling)

Japanese: ヒヒ(狒々) - ヒヒ（英語表記）baboon

A general term for Old World monkeys belonging to the genus Papio and the genus Theropithecus of the primate family Cercopithecidae, which live in the African continent south of the Sahara Desert and the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. They are also called baboons. They are broadly divided into four groups: the Hamadryas baboon (illustration), which lives in the savannas from Ethiopia and Somalia to the Arabian Peninsula; the gelada baboon (illustration), which lives in the wastelands of the Ethiopian highlands, which are at higher altitudes than the Hamadryas baboon; the mandrill (illustration) and drill (illustration), which live in the tropical rainforests from the western Democratic Republic of the Congo to Nigeria; and the savanna baboon, which lives in a vast area south of the Sahara.
